Benson Bounty
Michelle and Mark Brannen own and operate Benson Bounty LLC, an urban family farm located on 1.5 acres of land in the Benson neighborhood of Omaha, Nebraska.
The idea and concept for Benson Bounty was hatched on a farm in Panama. Michelle and mark were traveling in central America and got a job working on a farm in Panama for a few months. It was there that they decided to move back to Omaha and start a small urban farm.
They searched far and wide, but eventually found a house on 1.5 acres for sale just west of downtown Benson. It was perfect for them because it was essentially a blank canvas. It sits right in the middle of a residential neighborhood and right behind a car dealership so it kind of makes a very unique urban juxtaposition.
In the early years of their business, they set up a weekly farmstead in the parking lot at the Ted and Wally’s Benson location. During the summer months, they run a weekly farm stand at their urban farm.
Benson Bounty provides Ted and Wally’s with a fun variety of produce for our ice cream, from elderberries and mulberries, to mint and other fresh herbs. Recently, we used their orange balm to create a new ice cream flavor. They always have something new. Side note: one of my three favorite foods of all time, anywhere, in all the foods I have eaten my entire life, is their tomato jam.
Here’s a little video we produced from a nice visit to their urban farm on a lovely summer evening:
